“Health Trends in Hawaii” represents a collaboration of many organizations to assemble a profile of health and health care in Hawaii, designed for use by legislators, health care providers, health care officials, and advocates, consumer of health services, business leaders, employers, researchers, students, and all those interested in learning more about health care in the the state of Hawaii.  This data book is designed to “tell a story” of health and health care in Hawaii in a structure way.  Data/information is organized into five sections dealing with demography, health status, the health market, health resources, and health resource utilization.

“Hawaii Women’s Health Status: Chart Book for Planning and Development” offers a framework for discussing gender-relevant priorities in women’s healthcare and developing a women’s health policy in Hawaii. The Chart Book’s objectives are to improve women’s health, to monitor the progress made in women’s healthcare, and to establish effective policies in health promotion and disease prevention.

“Trends for Action – 2002” was prepared for the Healthcare Association of Hawaii to highlight areas where the health care system could be more effective in meeting the needs of all residents.   Key topics covered in this edition included reimbursement by government programs, public health initiatives to prevent illness and injury, licensing and certification of agencies and individuals providing home-and community-based health care, and the affordability of health care.

“Toward a Healthy Hawaii 2010” was part of the nationwide Health People 2010 health promotion and disease prevention initiative.  This data book presented a profile of the health the state and each Hawaii county measured against these goals in 2000.  Highlighted in this first edition included both areas where national goals were met and where opportunities to improve the health of our community existed.  The information in the data book sets the stage for public policy makers to support individuals and communities to be healthy and to assure access to care.
