National Association of Health Data Organizations - NAHDOThe National Association of Health Data Organizations (NAHDO) is a national, not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to improving health care through the collection, analysis, dissemination, public availability, and use of health data. NAHDO provides leadership in health care information management and analysis, promotes the availability of and access to health data, and encourages the use of these data to make informed decisions and guide the development of health policy.
HHIC is an active member of NAHDO. In addition, an HHIC representative serves on NAHDO’s Board of Directors.
Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) – Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) is a family of health care databases and related software tools and products developed through a Federal-State-Industry partnership and sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). HCUP databases bring together the data collection efforts of State data organizations, hospital associations, private data organizations, and the Federal government to create a national information resource of patient-level health care data. HCUP includes the largest collection of longitudinal hospital care data in the United States, with all-payer, encounter-level information beginning in 1988. These databases enable research on a broad range of health policy issues, including cost and quality of health services, medical practice patterns, access to health care programs, and outcomes of treatments at the national, State, and local market levels.
HHIC is HCUP partner, and has voluntarily served on various HCUP workgroups. HHIC staff have also partnered with AHRQ and CDC staff to publish journal articles on Kawasaki Syndrome and RSV in Hawaii, using HCUP data for Hawaii.
Health Information Management Association of Hawaii (HIMAH) The Health Information Management Association of Hawaii (HIMAH) is the community of professionals engaged in health information management, providing support to members and strengthening the industry and profession. It promotes the development of its members through education and continuous professional growth. HIMAH is a Component State Association of the American Health Information Association (AHIMA).
Many of HIMAH’s members are active participants in the delivery and evaluation of data submitted by their respective hospitals to HHIC. A representative of HHIC serves on HIMAH’s Board of Directors.
NRC Picker NRC Picker's HCAHPS Program is the industry’s leading source for evidence-based best practices and insights supporting organization-wide HCAHPS improvement initiatives. Members of this comprehensive program will have access to in-depth research, best practice case studies, on-demand research, process improvement tools and analytics.
HHIC supports the hospital’s patient experience survey efforts. HHIC serves as a single source for collecting, preparing, and transmitting data to the selected vendor, NRC Picker, saving the hospitals time and money.
Healthcare Association of Hawaii (HAH) The Healthcare Association of Hawaii (HAH) is a non-profit organization representing Hawaii's healthcare providers. HAH provides legislative and regulatory advocacy at all levels of government - federal, state, and county. HAH has focused considerable efforts towards reducing the number of individuals in Hawaii who do not have health care insurance and educating decision makers on the need for adequate payments to providers to cover the cost of care.
HHIC actively supports HAH’s data and informational needs. Financial information for acute care is provided via HHIC’s Hawaii Data Bank, a program that is part of a national effort to produce timely and accurate reports based on income statement, balance sheet, and patient utilization data. The ultimate goal of the Hawai'i Databank is to provide hospitals with powerful reporting, planning, and benchmarking decision support tools and to supply the Healthcare Association of Hawaii (HAH) with timely financial data to use in advocating on behalf of Hawai'i’s hospitals.
Hawaii Health Information Exchange (HHIE) The Hawaii Health Information Exchange (HHIE), Inc. is a nonprofit corporation recently formed by key stakeholders in the Hawaii health care community including representatives from various hospitals, health insurers, physician organizations, and other health care providers. HHIE is dedicated to the formation and operation of a health information exchange system in the State of Hawaii, which would allow a secure and rapid exchange of medical information.
HHIC is an active member, serving on the Board of Directors.
Health Information Management System Society (HIMSS) The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is the healthcare industry's membership organization exclusively focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of healthcare information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare. HIMSS represents more than 20,000 individual members and over 300 corporate members that collectively represent organizations employing millions of people. HIMSS frames and leads healthcare public policy and industry practices through its advocacy, educational and professional development initiatives designed to promote information and management systems’ contributions to ensuring quality patient care.
HHIC is an active member, serving on the Board of Directors of the Aloha Chapter of HIMSS.
State Health Planning and Development Agency (SHPDA)
HHIC staff participate on SHPDA’S Plan Development Committee which is working to re-develop the Hawaii Health Services and Facilities Plan (2008). The Health Services and Facilities Plan (HSFP) is required by law and serves as a guiding document for both the Certificate of Need process and for health care planning in Hawaii. SHPDA is mandated to develop and periodically revise the HSFP:
§323D-15 State Health Services and Facilities Plan. There shall be a state health services and facilities plan which shall address the health care needs of the State, including inpatient care, health care facilities, and special needs. The plan shall depict the most economical and efficient system of care commensurate with adequate quality of care, and shall include standards for utilization of health care facilities and major medical equipment. The plan shall provide for the reduction or elimination of underutilized, redundant, or inappropriate health care facilities and health care services.
Specific goals of this edition of the Health Services and Facilities Plan are consistent with the purpose of SHPDA, which is to promote accessibility for all the people of the State to quality health care services at a reasonable cost. In addition, the goals reflect current issues facing Hawaii’s health care environment, and include:

Focus on increasing access to necessary healthcare services.

Promote the financial health of the healthcare delivery system.

Encourage healthy optimization of services and expensive technology by ensuring that supply meets the need and costs are reasonable.

Promote regionalization of services: Consider regionalization for limited or expensive health care services.
